The Easiest Messy Bun Bow Hat Tutorial

How to Crochet the Easiest Messy Bun Bow Hat

How to Crochet the Easiest Messy Bun Bow Hat

I've gotten so many questions and comments on my first hat tutorial so today I'm sharing a second hat tutorial. This is quite certainly the easiest messy bun bow hat tutorial ever.  But feel free to still ask questions as you have them. :)

I've shared the tutorial on how to crochet ribbing for a hat previously (here is the tutorial on how to crochet the ribbing).

And the actual hat (and bow!) is made with all half double crochet stitches. Oh. So. Easy!

Material I used:

- Charisma Loops and Threads yarn
- 8mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Darning needle

Hat Pattern:

Chain 1

Row 1: Work 36 half double crochet stitches evenly around. To finish the row use a slip stitch to connect to the first half double crochet stitch. (This is the only row that will have a true beginning and end that needs to be connected with a slip stitch).

*The rows are crocheted in one continuous loop to avoid seams.  Do not crochet turning chains at the beginning of each row.

Row 2 - 6: Crochet half double crochet stitches evenly around.  You don't necessarily need to count your stitches just keep track of which row you're on.

Row 7-10: Crochet three half double crochet stitches, skip one.  Repeat this pattern for rows 7-10. Finish off by using a slip stitch leaving a long end.

Bow Pattern:

Chain 25 and connect beginning and end with a slip stitch.

Row 1-4: *Chain 1, crochet half double crochet stitches all around.  Connect beginning and end of row with a slip stitch.* Finish off by using a slip stitch leaving a long end.

Wrap the long end around the flatten bow 10 times.  Tie the wrapped end and the end that started the bow together.

Attach the bow to the back of the hat using a darning needle and the two long ends on the hat.
